Bio:
Ilana Dotan was born in 1967 in Jerusalem, Israel. Ilana received her BFA in 1993 from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. After graduation, she worked as an art director and graphic designer. In 2016, Ilana returned to her artistic practice, focusing on realistic drawings of synthetic materials and mundane objects executed in graphite and charcoal.
Her works are presented in private collections and have been exhibited at the Biennale of Arts and Design, Eretz Israel Museum, Tel Aviv; Rally Museum, Caesarea; The Cliff Gallery, Netanya; the World Trade Center in Taipei, and more.

Statement:
In recent years, I have been drawing unbranded, industrial objects from my immediate surroundings. These everyday items often go unnoticed and receive little cultural recognition, despite their significant impact on our lives.
I am fascinated by the visual complexity and material narratives of these objects—how they reflect contemporary humanity, revealing our needs, resources, technologies, fears, and desires.
My creative process begins with photographing the selected object using my smartphone, editing the image on a computer, and then meticulously reproducing it on paper with graphite and charcoal. By enlarging these objects with realistic precision, I uncover their aesthetic qualities, uniqueness, and intricate details.
This approach continues the long tradition of still-life art, which not only provides a tangible depiction of material reality but also serves as an allegory for deeper truths about our existence.

אילנה דותן ילידת 1967, ישראל. השלימה ב1993 תואר ראשון במחלקה לאומנות בבצלאל ומסיום לימודיה עסקה בגרפיקה ממוחשבת, במקביל המשיכה להרחיב את השכלתה במגוון רחב של תחומים במסגרות שונות.
מ-2016 חזרה לעסוק באומנות באופן פעיל ומתמקדת ברישום ריאליסטי בגרפיט ופחם של חומרים ומוצרים מתועשים מהסביבה הביתית.
עבודותיה הוצגו בתערוכות יחיד ובתערוכות זוגיות ברחבי הארץ ובתערוכות קבוצתיות "בביאנלה לאומנויות ועיצוב", מוזיאון ארץ ישראל, תל־אביב; מוזיאון ראלי, קיסריה; גלריה זוזו, עמק חפר; מרכז הסחר העולמי בטייפה ועוד…
עבודותיה נמצאות באוספים פרטיים בארץ ובעולם. היא מיוצגת ע"י הגלריה של קרן ברגיל ברמה"ש.

על העבודות:
בשנים האחרונות אני רושמת בצורה מדוקדקת אובייקטים מתועשים בלתי ממותגים מהסביבה הביתית, אובייקטים שמקבלים תשומת לב מועטה גם בעת השימוש בהם וגם מבחינת יצוג תרבותי, אבל יש להם השפעה רבה עלינו.
אני מסוקרנת מהמורכבות החזותית ומהסיפור החומרי העכשווי של החפצים הללו ומהדרכים בהן הם משקפים את האנושי, את הצרכים, המשאבים, הטכנולוגיות, הפחדים והרצונות שלנו.
בתהליך העבודה אני מצלמת בסמארטפון את האוביקט שבחרתי, מעבדת את הצילום במחשב ולאחר מכן מעבירה אותו, באמצעות רישום בגרפיט ופחם, לנייר.
הגדלת האובייקט באופן ריאליסטי ומדוקדק מאפשרת לי להעריך את האסתטיקה, הייחודיות והמורכבות שלו. תהליך זה ממשיך מסורת ארוכה של ציור טבע דומם, המשמש גם כתיאור קונקרטי של המציאות החומרית וגם כאלגוריה עליה.
